Episode 47: TV Taylor
TV Taylor — Prank Cab Show Creator on Addiction, Loss, and Building 80M Views From 0
TV Taylor has spent his whole life behind a camera.
What he's built recently with The Prank Cab Show, where he surprises Uber passengers with custom AI-generated songs about themselves, has become a genuine phenomenon: 80 million views and half a million new followers in a single month, on top of 250,000+ followers built across his other channels.
But the story underneath the virality is heavier. In 2006, Taylor's high school sweetheart, Casey, was killed in a drunk driving accident — at 18 years old, the summer after graduation. The grief sent him into a decade-long spiral through pills, then heroin, then intravenous use — a period that cost him his marriage, his friendships, and custody of his son. He's been through rehab multiple times and is closing in on 10 years sober.
In this episode of Hitting the Road, Taylor talks candidly about that decade, the accountability and faith community that helped pull him out, and the ongoing work of rebuilding a relationship with his now-14-year-old son. He also walks through exactly how The Prank Cab Show comes together — from AI music tool Suno to real-time passenger reactions — and shares his plans to expand into 30-minute, city-by-city long-form episodes, along with a longer-term goal of writing a book and running for Congress to advocate around the opioid crisis.
This is a conversation about grief, addiction, and what it actually looks like to build something real on the other side of rock bottom.
If you love comeback stories, creators who build something real out of nothing, and content that makes you laugh while it sneaks up on you emotionally — this conversation is for you.
